Empowering adolescence to take charge of their sexual reproductive health and rights

 According to the previous studies aimed at improving the understanding of the factors affecting the empowerment of adolescence in terms of taking care of their sexual and reproductive health and rights such as puberty and mental health, preventing high risk of sexual behaviours, treatment seeking for sexual and reproductive health complaints such as genital infectious.

According to WHO, empowerment is the core of health promotion that enables people to gain more control over the decisions of the actions affecting their health.As empowerment is one of the most important concept of health promotion and health related quality of life.

Adolescence should be empowered to acquire the ability to take care of their sexual reproductive health and rights.The main theme of empowerment for care with reinforcement foundation of sexual reproductive health and rights,provision of services in health system,reinforcing education initiations and consolidating the interaction and collaboration among authorities of health system, education system and policy making institution.

Access to youth friendly health services is vital for ensuring sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and well being of adolescents.

Adolescence get involved in high risk sexual behaviours due to various reasons such as inadequate knowledge,wrong beliefs and social norms in sexual performance,wrong attitudes toward sexual intercourse.

Therefore it is important to bring about the aspect of empowerment on adolescent in order to help them to achieve the ability to change their perception on sexual reproductive health and rights matters.

The Government,Ministry of education and Ministry of health should ensure that empowerment models are emphasized in schools so that the adolescent can learn alot as empowerment models enhance positive self confidence,ability to achieve the objectives,having a sense of control over life and change process as well as sense of future expectations.

Empowerment models include;

Individual empower model which is used to promote self management and improve the quality of life of adolescence as well as to promote the high risk behavior of sexual activities.

Empowerment education models are based on  skills and knowledge development that support adolescence attempts for social activity and change from personal development to social organization.

The adolescent empowering model is focused on achieving participation in a meaningful activities,providing opportunities for adolescence to be part of the community.

Therefore it is our collective responsibility to always empowerment these adolescent as information is power.
